Song Crew!!

Left to Right: Stefan Wolfs (guitars &  pedal steel), Mischa Porte (drums & percussion), Madelief van Vlijmen (bass, keys, synths and bvs) listening back to our work in Bethlehemkerk Studio 150, Amsterdam, May 2021

Making a record with these guys was very easy. I mean, they are all well-trained, vibey, experienced players but you need more than that to make music breathe. We were in a big posh studio where the pressure of time vs money was an omni-present reality but we didnt crack, choke or become hesitant. We somehow managed to create a climate together that allowed our individual qualities to surface and mix freely. I think they call that CHEMISTRY when it happens. Free energy. Thats what we recorded. I think you are going to hear that in the new album when its ready. I hope we can get out there and play some shows in this formation when the time is ripe. Ive called them SONG CREW because they are the "crew" that bring the recordings of these songs to life, with their magic. RespekT & Lurve

Survive in style champions!

"Letters of Gold" airplay in France, Germany, Scandinavia, Australia, America and the UK  as well as some cool reviews from all of those territories and a 600% rise in streaming figures in the last 3-4 months. 600% of nothing in financial terms is still nothing but it nevertheless signifies a rise in the number of people who are actually finding their way through the clutter of the net to the music I make. This vid here is the song  "No Sleep Until the Work is Done" which got playlisted briefly on a commercial syndicated radio station here in the Netherlands called ARROW CLASSIC ROCK. Thats a station that plays Stones, Zeppelin, Aerosmith etc...you get the drift. I dont know how they snuck this tune in amongst all of that or why even but thats kind of beside the point. The song has fraternised with the big time...it didnt stay there for long but it was there. Its not a rock song either.

More news from the old country

Dan Tuffy triumphantly blends electronic and earthy sounds on his sophomore album, Letters Of Gold

REVIEW: FORTE MAGAZINE - AUSTRALIA (August 2020)
A record bound to cast a long shadow.
"I first heard Dan Tuffy way back in the 1980s when in Tasmania. He was a founding member of Wild Pumpkins at Midnight, which later went on to ARIA success, before heading off to Europe. Since 1995, Dan has been a Netherlands resident, writing, producing and performing while owner of Smoked Recordings.
It’s been three years since Dan’s 2017 debut solo album Songs from Dan which gathered much critical praise and had him busy touring Australia and Europe.
His new album, Letters Of Gold has just been released, and is a move away from his more country albums to a more unique approach where bass, electronic and percussive elements come to the foreground.
The recording process involved multiple collaborations musicians from around the globe including bass players Madelief van Vlijmen and Judith Renkema (The Netherlands), co-producer, midi programmer and sound-scaper Michael Turner (Australia) and multi-instrumentalists Lucie Thorne & Matt Walker.
I could spend some time talking about all the tracks on this album, but for our locale, the standout is ‘Big Man’, a tribute to our own Chris Wilson. This song was put together and previewed by Sarah, Fenn and George before being released.
A definite one for extended listening."

Setting the Big Man free

This song is my tribute to friend, musical legend and mentor Chris Wilson who died last year. I recorded it pretty much the day he left us but have been sitting on it for long enough now. Its the last track on my new record Letters of Gold. Old WPAM comrade Michael Turner made this gorgeous clip. In fact there is a lot of WPAM energy in this (my old band of the 80s & 90s). Chris loved us and we loved him. RIP Willo you legend.
